Breadloaf Westport Chair
The Breadloaf Westport Chair is built on the same platform, that is the legs, as our Classic Westport Chair. Structurally it is exactly the same. The differences are aesthetic and were originally developed by Middlebury College in Vermont. The literary college was looking for outdoor chairs on which students could write or draw. The Westport Chair was much admired but the college wanted something unique for their campus. Initially the arms were slanted for writing and drawing! Off campus, the arms have been flattened and are about 2″ narrower than Westport arms. Still lots of room for books, plates and glasses. Obviously the top of the back is rounded and it is also about 2″ narrower. Overall the Breadloaf Westport Chair has a lighter look and size but the footprint is exactly the same as the Westport Chair.
